Hyperuricaemia, or gout, describes a condition in which high concentrations of uric acid are found in the blood. Manifesting as acute, but intermittent attacks of joint pain, swelling and redness, gout is caused by the formation of needlelike crystal of deposited uric acid, which irritates the joint lining.

Predisposing factors to this disorder are kidney failure, the use of diuretics, dehydration, hormonal disorders, alcohol consumption and over production of uric acid by the body. It is estimated that 90% of all cases of gout is due to the under-excretion of uric acid by the kidneys.

A gout attack is characterized by a rapid onset of severe joint pain, swelling and redness. In most cases, the initial episode involves a single joint, especially the joint at the base of the big toe. Any joint of the body, including the knees, ankles, fingers, wrists and elbows are susceptible to attack. With gout, an attack can last from a few days up to a few weeks.

During an acute attack, hold painful area for two minutes under cold, running water for quick relief. Or apply an ice pack for ten minutes, then alternate with a moist hot-towel compress, to soothe and numb the pain. A ginger or spearmint compress may help.

May 1, 2004:
Editor's Note: Jeff Tollefson says that very quick relief may be achieved by rubbing 2 or 3 drops of ginger essential oil (therapeutic-grade only!) onto the affected area, with superior results in less than a minute. Temporary relief, perhaps, but up to a couple hours or more -- hours that can be used to try to get some sleep during a night attack.
Jeff says, "If it's severe and sleep is impossible, try soaking the foot in a kettle of cold water with 1 cup of Epsom salts and 6-8 drops of therapeutic-grade ginger essential oil. Add a dozen ice cubes every 20 minutes, for an hour or so, then lay down on your back with the leg elevated on a pile of blankets or towels."
UPDATE September 4, 2009:
Also, wrap your foot in 2 or 3 of these overnight! Ahhhhh, yes!! I kid you not. Yep, you can probably guess I had another gout attack -- 5 and a half years after my first one. But this time I knew what to do, plus I put these foot patches on my foot -- AND soaked my foot in the water with the patches on."

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables for the next 2 weeks. Cherries, highest in proanthocyanidins, have been shown to be effective in lowering uric acid levels and preventing gout. Consume ½ pound of fresh cherries immediately, or drink organic cherry juice every day. Keep frozen cherries in the freezer, if fresh are not available. Consume plenty of omega-3 fatty acids to help reduce inflammation and tissue damage. Flax seed oil and fish oils are a good source, but flax hull lignans are better.

Drink plenty of water. This will help rehydrate the body and flush excess uric acid out of the body.

To help reduce joint inflammation and swelling as well as reduce the uric acid buildup in the body, supplement with Omegacin, an essential fatty acids blend that helps to lubricate the joints and reduce inflammation in the pain pathway; and Arthritin, to rebuild and regenerate connectice tissue and cartilage.

More natural supplements:
(You may need to copy and paste some of the names below, or type the following product names into the Search Keywords box)
1 - Buffer PH - It is critical to balance the ph as gout is an acidic condition. If the blood is too acidic, connective tissue, and cartilage in joints can lose their smooth sliding motion, joints become inflammed causing pain.
2 - AM-Regen hgh - Helps to regenerate all cells and tissues.
3 - PM-Regen hgh - Provides healing and reduce inflammation.
4 - Pain-eze - Use only as needed for pain or discomfort.

If you are overweight, consider shedding a few pounds. Weight loss lowers serum uric acid levels. Avoid crash dieting however.

Eat plenty of citrus fruits and vegetables, cherries, raspberries, blackberries, tomatoes, green peppers and leafy greens. For short term relief, raw fruits, vegetables and their juices (especially celery, liquid chlorophyll, carrot, spinach and parsley) are recommended in large amounts. Whole grains, seeds and nuts can also be included.

To correct the lack of potassium (the recommended intake is 3,500 mg, but it is safe to take considerably more) take supplements or eat foods high in potassium such as baked potato with skin (844), 1 cup cooked spinach (838), ½ cup dried peaches (784), ½ medium avocado (604), 1 cup cantaloupe (494), ½ cup boiled lima beans (478), medium banana (451), 1 cup orange juice (436), 15 raw baby carrots (420), 1 cup of skim milk (406), 1 cup nonfat yogurt (390), ½ cup non-salted tomato sauce (350), ½ cup canned kidney beans (329), yams, dried prunes, etc. If you eat enough of these fruits and vegetables you will not need to take a potassium supplement. Potassium makes the acid crystals go into solution so they can be eliminated.

Lemon juice prevents gout attacks by stimulating the formation of calcium carbonate in the body. Calcium carbonate neutralizes acids in the body, including uric acid that triggers gout attacks. After each meal drink the juice of one freshly squeezed lemon in a glass of lukewarm water. To get more juice out of the lemon, bring it to room temperature, then roll it around on the counter with the palm of your hand.

More gout prevention tips:

• One of the best ways to prevent gout is to drink at least 6-8 eight ounce glasses of water, fresh juices or herb tea daily, especially at the first signs of gout. This will keep your urine diluted and will help your body excrete uric acid and prevent crystals from forming.

• Take the flavonoid quercetin. This should be part of your permanent gout-prevention diet.

• Taking ½ teaspoon of food grade baking soda with meals will prevent gout attacks. This will help alkalize the body. However, it has been suggested to not use it for more than 90 days in a row.

• Eat foods high in potassium, as mentioned above.

• Eating generous amounts of other fruits and vegetables helps keep uric acid crystals in solution.

• Keep the leg elevated.

• A high fiber diet also aids in the elimination of uric acid by absorbing bile acids formed in the liver. These bile acids can act as a precursor to uric acid.

• Herb teas, and soaking your foot in these herb teas may help:
Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) Soak mullein leaves in a hot vinegar/water mixture. Pack the leaves on the affected area.
Burdock root (Arctium lappa) can help rid the body of acidic waste build up and help supports normal uric acid levels in the body.
Sea Holly (Eryngium maritimum)
Nettle, Stinging (Urtica dioica) contains alkaloids which neutralize uric acid.
Bromelain also helps reduce the inflammation.

Diet

Traditional thinking tells us that gout is the result of excessive amounts of alcohol, protein, heavy foods, coffee and soft drinks in your diet. Certain foods contain high levels of purine which can cause uric acid levels to rise. Purine is a protein substance that is transformed into uric acid during digestion. Reduction in consumption of these foods is very often successful in reducing or eliminating gout.

Reduce or eliminate the consumption of meats, fried foods and foods high in purine. Purine foods include asparagus, meat gravies and broths, mushrooms, mussels and sardines.

Foods and other things to avoid:

• Meat: organ meats, offal, meat extracts, veal, bacon, sweetbreads, meat gravies and broths, consumme/bullion
• Poultry: turkey, goose
• Seafood: salmon, mackerel, trout, cod, herring, sardines, anchovies, mussels, crab, shrimp
• Vegetables: peas, beans, lentils, asparagus, mushrooms, cooked spinach, rhubarb, cauliflower
• Yeast products: baked goods, beer
• Alcohol: increases the production of uric acid by accelerating purine metabolism and inhibits its excretion by the kidneys.
• Coffee: accelerates the breakdown of protein into uric acid
• All fried foods: causes a depletion of vitamin E, which can cause uric acid to rise
• Cream and ice cream
• Rich desserts
• Spices
• Pastries
• Simple sugars, simple carbohydrates and saturated fats - they increase your body's production of uric acid and impair your kidneys' ability to get rid of it. Eliminate fructose (found in food and drinks, like sodas)
• White flour
• Aspirin can raise uric acid levels. If you need to use pain killers, only use ones with ibuprofen.
• Oatmeal
• Whole grains
• Caffeine impairs kidney function, which is needed to get uric acid out of the body.

Low-purine diets are low in vitamins B, E and other antioxidants, so supplementation will be necessary to prevent damage from free radicals that can intensify gouty problems.

B complex One to three 50 mg tablets of the complete B complex daily, plus 500 mg of pantothenic acid (B5) in divided doses to assist the body's conversion of uric acid into harmless compounds.

Bromelain 500 mg twice daily as an anti-inflammatory.

Fish oil Take 2 grams of fish oil capsules 2x a day to reduce the chances of gouty inflammation.

Magnesium citrate an anti-spasmodic to relieve pain. 400 mg three times a day.

L-glutamine is an antacid. 500 mg four times daily on an empty stomach.

L-glutathione increases renal cleansing of uric acid. 500 mg twice daily on an empty stomach.

L-glycine acts as an antacid. 500 mg four times daily between meals.

L-methionine detoxifies purines. 250 mg twice daily on an empty stomach.

To prevent the formation of uric acid crystals, take two tablets of tissue salts three times a day.

Vitamin C ester - 1,000 mg per hour at the very outset of a gout attack, then reduce to 500-3,000 mg daily for maintenance. Vitamin C helps lower serum uric acid levels. Do not take more than 3000 mg a day.

Vitamin D - 400mg daily

Vitamin E - Low-purine diets are low in vitamin E and fried foods deplete it, so supplementation will be necessary as a deficiency can contribute to the formation of excess uric acid. Begin with 400 IU of natural vitamin E, and slowly increase to 600-800 IU daily.

Bilberry is high in anthocyanosides and flavonoids, which are helpful in overcoming gout.

Get some natural, concentrated black cherry juice and drink several tablespoons of the concentrate daily.
Black cohosh moderates blood acidity.

Blueberries are high in anti-inflammatory compounds called anthocyanins, which help ease the pain of gout.

Buchu tea helps dissolve and flush out uric acid crystals.

Castor oil packs - Soak a piece of white flannel in warm castor oil, wring it out and place over the affected area; cover with plastic wrap and apply a heating pad. Do this for one hour twice daily.

Cayenne pepper - Boil one tablespoon of Cayenne pepper in 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup water and dab onto the painful joint.

• Mix cayenne with enough wintergreen oil to make a paste and apply to the affected area.

Celery seeds - These seeds are quite effective in relieving gout by eliminating uric acid from the body. According to James Duke, Ph.D., a medical botanist formerly with the USDA, celery seeds contain about twenty different anti-inflammatory agents. Although there is little scientific research on celery seeds, according to Kerry Bone, a leading expert on herbal remedies in Australia, "it (sic) works brilliantly in patients."
Note: This remedy is not to be used by pregnant women or those with kidney disease because of its potential diuretic effect.

• Cook a tablespoon of celery seeds in two cups of water until they are soft; strain and drink 1/2 cup four times a day.

Devil's claw reduces uric acid levels and is a natural cleansing agent for toxic impurities. Take 400 mg of the dried extract 3x a day for as long as desired.

DMSO (dimethylsulfoxide) is very effective in relieving pain and swelling caused by inflammation. It helps dissolve crystalline deposits. See our Product.

Garlic - Eat several cloves of raw garlic daily. Mince the garlic and add it to black cherry juice for a potent remedy.

Ginger - Put 1/3 cup of ground ginger (buy in bulk to keep the cost down) in a bathtub of water and soak for 30 minutes. This will cause you to sweat which will help eliminate the uric acid from your tissues. When you are finished the bath be sure to rinse off thoroughly, as the ginger can cause skin irritation if it dries on your skin.

Grapes are high in alkalines which lessen the acidity of uric acid and aid in its elimination from the body.

Hawthorn is high in anthocyanosides and flavonoids, which are helpful in overcoming gout.

Hydrangea is an anti-inflammatory.

Parsley acts as a natural diuretic.

Quercetin - The flavonoid quercetin inhibits uric acid production in a similar fashion to commonly prescribed drugs for gout. Take 1000 mg of quercetin along with 1,000-1,500 mg of the enzyme bromelain (to enhance absorption) two to three times daily between meals.

Saffron neutralizes uric acid buildup.

Spearmint - Make a poultice of spearmint leaves and wrap the affected area.

Strawberries - Eating a cup of strawberries with each meal should bring quick relief, as they neutralize uric acid.

Yarrow - Make a tea by using equal parts of yarrow and stinging nettles; strain, cool and drink several cups a day.

Charcoal - Take ½-1 teaspoon of activated charcoal daily.

• Make a poultice using ½ cup of activated charcoal, 3 tablespoons of ground flaxseed and warm water to draw out the toxins.

1 cup green tea daily

Willow bark and Boswellia, taken together.

Take a Resveratrol supplement

Acupressure
• Press just below the center of the nose toward the upper lip.

• Press and massage between the ball of the foot and the bottom of the big toe on each foot; then on the left foot only, stimulate a point halfway between the base of the little toe and the heel pad.

• Press inward and upward on the underside of the protuberance at the base of the skull.

• On both hands, press and massage a point on the inside of the pad at the base of the thumb directly beneath the index finger; then on the left palm only, stimulate a point halfway between the base of the little finger and the wrist.

If you are totally bent on using the toxic, acidic, prescription medications that your MD is forced to prescribe to you, suggest sulfrinpyrozone, which is designed to eliminate the uric acid from the body therefore eliminating the gout attack. Sulfrinpyrozone is generic Anturane, a cheaper drug than Colchicine.

Best overall remedy is prevention: Low purine diet, low cholesterol, low protein diet, drink lots of water and exercise.

How does Jack Hilboldt get his gout under control?

Gout is a serious health issue that affects millions of Americans. There currently isn't anything that can cure gout, and drug medications have many side effects.

I am so glad to hear that Pearlcium not only has an immediate effect to help Jack stop his gout inflammation and pain, it also helps him prevent gout from flaring up again.

Here is Jack's story. I hope you will share this story with friends, family and people you meet. You may change their lives by helping them get their gout under control.

"Gout is a rich man's disease. Although I am not rich man, I have had lived a good life. I started to work early, got a good union job and got paid well. I love to live a good life. I like to eat and drink well. I got gout when I turned 40.

The pain is excruciating when you have gout. You want to chop your foot off. Only people who have had gout, know how it feels like. It is very very bad. It is the kind of pain you would never you want to have, or put on your worst enemy. Many times, I have to go to the emergency room to get pain killers.

I would have gout flare up 3 to 4 times a year. It puts me out of commission, either work or other plans for 7 to 10 days. I can't do anything.

When I was diagnosed with gout around the age of 40, I really didn't want to take prescription drugs. They seem to cause more damage than good.

I did some research on gout. They say the best control is to change your diet, which is very hard for me to do. I tried cherry juice and baking soda. However, they seem to take forever to take effect.

About 3 years later, I was introduced to Pearlcium as a product that helps with inflammation and is not a prescription drug. As a person with gout, you are willing to try anything, so I decided to try Pearlcium.

I had a gout flare up with my right foot at the time I first received Pearlcium. After putting Pearlcium directly on my swollen foot, I put on my boot and went to work with a limp and in a lot of pain. Sometime during the day my foot swelling was reduced and I was walking around without the limp and very little pain. Later when I went home, I took my boot off without feeling pain and the swelling was gone, no more gout!

I have not stopped taking Pearlcium since then, it has been 3 years. Well, one time I did when I was away on vacation - I forgot to take it every day and before long I had a flare up with my gout. Now that I realized why it flared up, I really try to make sure I never miss taking my Pearlcium!"

-Jack

If you, your family or friends know anyone who has gout, please tell them about Pearlcium. You can help them eliminate so much pain and get their gout under control.

Thank you for sharing and helping others and spread the healing powers of Pearlcium.

Best to your health and wealth,
Jeff Tollefson
